American Water Offers Top Ten Water Conservation Tips for Summer
For many Americans, Memorial Day Weekend marks the unofficial start to a summer season of backyard barbeques, beach going and weekend road trips. It's also the start of peak season for water consumption in many states. According to the U.S. EPA's WaterSense program, water consumption in the average American home on summer days can spike to 1,000 gallons per day, compared to 260 gallons per day during "off peak" season.
Because increased water consumption can put a strain on local supply and a dent in home budgets, American Water has released a "Top Ten" list of consumer tips for conserving water and identifying and preventing leaks. Click here to read more.
American Water Issues 2010 Virtual Annual Report
American Water launched its virtual annual report to stockholders, reducing the amount of printing traditionally associated with these materials. The 2010 annual report on Form 10-K is available at www.amwaterannualreport.com.
By providing a virtual annual report, American Water continues its efforts to preserve the Earth's limited natural resources. The company estimates that the online report saves approximately 300 trees and 98,000 gallons of water, which would have been used in the papermaking process.
Celebrities Donate Time to "Invade" Homes to Save Water
With 36 states expected to face serious water shortages by 2013, water conservation is an increasingly critical concern for our country. In response to this important issue, the Student Conservation Association (SCA) and American Water, in partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) WaterSense program, have launched the Save Water Today public service campaign. American Water's Military Services Group Awarded Contracts
American Water's Military Services Group has been awarded contracts for operation and maintenance of the water and the wastewater systems at Fort Belvoir, Virginia and Fort Meade, Maryland. According to the agreements, the awards are estimated at approximately $288 million over a 50-year period for Fort Belvoir and $650 million over a 50-year period for Fort Meade.
