Customer Water AlertsSan Marino Lower Water System - Water Quality: Chlorination February 26, 2009: California American Water is aware that some of our customers in El Monte, Rosemead and Temple City are experiencing increased levels of chlorine in their water. We have notified customers through a 911 reverse call about the situation in service area. Due to a spike in our chlorine disinfection process, some California American Water customers in Rosemead, El Monte and Temple City are experiencing water that tastes and smells like chlorine. Customers in the affected neighborhoods may experience water with a strong chlorine odor and taste. California American Water has flushed the high chlorine levels from its main water lines. However, some residual, higher-than-normal levels may still exist within the customers’ home plumbing system. This problem will dissipate as water clears through the customer’s home water lines. While the levels of chlorine in your water may have spiked higher than normal, the use of chlorine in public water systems is an important disinfectant used to prevent waterborne diseases. If you encounter a strong odor or taste, please open a cold water valve in your bathtub or shower to allow the water to more quickly flush through your home’s water lines. Let the water run for approximately five minutes. If flushing your system does not resolve the issue, please call 888-237-1333 to speak with a representative. We appreciate your support and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
