Goals and Objectives
We remain committed to seek and maintain such relationships as we strive to broaden our network of partners through a Supplier Diversity Program. This program is designed to encourage, recruit, and utilize certified diverse suppliers in each of our strategic sourcing projects and welcome minority-owned, woman-owned, and disabled veteran-owned businesses (MBE/WBE/DVBE). Our supplier diversity program is based upon guidelines established by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) for regulated energy and telecommunication utilities.
American Water believes that a commitment to supplier diversity is good business and a benefit for the communities it serves. Many best in class companies show this commitment by developing a diverse supplier base within the communities in which they operate. Our expectation is that the expansion of the available vendor base will ultimately lead to lower procurement costs.

How to determine if you are a diverse supplier - If you own and operate a company that is 51% owned and operated by a minority, woman or disabled veteran, you may qualify to become certified as a diverse vendor. To obtain the application to become certified, please visit the web-site of the Supplier Clearinghouse at http://www.thesupplierclearinghouse.com/.
Insurance Requirements - California American Water maintains a safe work environment and we expect our vendor partners to do the same while performing work for us. Please be prepared to present your certificate of insurance showing what your current coverage is along with your certificate from the Supplier Clearinghouse when discussing business opportunities with us.
