Helping to build stronger, more vital communities is central to American Water’s responsibilities as a corporate citizen. To us, doing business in a responsible way means demonstrating a commitment to local environmental stewardship; ensuring the health and safety of our employees, customers and the general public; understanding the viewpoints of those who are affected by our operations, and ensuring future generations understand the need to protect community water resources.
We are proud to play an active, positive role in communities where we live, work and do business. Our community involvement activities include cash grants, in-kind donations and the volunteer service of our employees, who donate their time and talents to benefit our communities in a number of ways.
These include partnering with schools to teach students…and teachers… about wise water use and the water treatment and distribution process. We also work with a number of organizations to support and encourage environmental, cultural and educational programs. And we make it a priority to help improve, restore and protect community water supplies, whether they are rivers or lakes, wetlands or watersheds.
In addition to participating in local programs, we also provide company-wide support to the United Way and Water For People. Each of these organizations helps us extend our reach and make meaningful contributions to aid those less fortunate in communities around the world.
