Turning Service On/Off

Turning the Water On
Turning your residential water services to your home on and off has never been easier. With our new self-service website, My H2O Online you can set up your account, keep track of your water use and pay your bill when it is convenient for you. You can even request a time to have your service turned on or off.

Commercial customers may call us at 800.492.8373 – residential customers can call as well – and one of our experienced customer service representatives will be ready to help. We’re ready 24 hours a day to assist the person responsible for paying the bill.

New Residence:
If you are moving into a new home or non-residential building, make sure that water is available at your address. Then your can schedule an appointment through My H2O Online or call us to schedule an appointment to install your water meter and turn on the water.

Existing Residence:
If you move to a residence where water service is already available, call us to schedule a service call to read the meter and start your billing with an actual meter reading. If your water meter is located inside your home, it will be necessary for a representative to enter your home to read the meter.

Please call us at least 24 hours before you want your water service started. An adult should be present when we turn on your water service, to prevent any overflow in case a faucet or other water device has been accidentally left on inside. An adult will also need to be present if your water service is already on, but we need to take a first reading from a meter located in the basement.

Most of our customers are not required to make a security deposit for new water service. There are exceptions. If you owe money to Indiana American Water for prior service, or if you have an unsatisfactory payment record within the past two years, you may be required to make a security deposit. Any deposit will not exceed 1/6 of your estimated annual billing. If the deposit is more than $70, you may pay it in equal installments over an eight-week period. Deposits will be refunded when a satisfactory payment record is maintained for one year.

Turning the Water Off
Please notify us a few days before you want your water service disconnected. This will enable us to take a final and accurate meter reading and ensure that you are only charged for water you have used. Be ready to tell us the date service should be stopped, to arrange for a final meter reading, and to provide us with your final billing address. And don’t forget to have your service address, billing address, and telephone number handy.

Effective January 1, 2013, Indiana American Water’s policy will change regarding the reconnection of water service after regular business hours. Beginning on this date, no reconnection of service after disconnection for non payment will be performed after regular business hours, except on Fridays, weekends, holidays and the day before a holiday as listed at at the “turning service on/off” link under the Customer Service tab. A reconnection fee and after-hours fee will be charged for any reconnection of service made after 3 p.m. on these days, payable prior to reconnection through an authorized payment center or online credit card processing vendor.
