Community Programs

Being a good neighbor is part of our mission at Kentucky American Water, and we are involved in a variety of efforts to do just that. A few of our key programs are listed here.

H2O Help to Others Program

Each year, Kentucky American Water donates $60,000 to assist low-income customers through our H20 Help to Others Program, administered for us by Community Action Council. We also give back to other organizations who lend water utility assistance to those in need. To learn more about the H2O Help to Others Program, call Community Action Council at 1-800-244-2275.

Environmental Grant Program

Our commitment to the environment includes offering a total of $20,000 each year to area organizations to assist with a variety of environmental initiatives. Organizations are eligible for grants up to $10,000 for community-based projects that improve, protect and restore drinking water supplies and surrounding watersheds. Ripple Effect Scholarship Program

Each year Kentucky American Water awards Ripple Effect Scholarships -- one-time, $500 awards -- to high school seniors who demonstrate academic excellence and an ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship. Since the program's inception in 2002, the company has awarded a total of $43,500 in Ripple Effect Scholarships to 71 students. The 2014 Ripple Effect Scholarship application form can be found here.

Hydration Station

The company has now launched a new program to assist organizations with outside events in the company's service area: the Kentucky American Water Hydration Station. The Hydration Station is a portable trailer equipped with six water dispensers to provide refreshing tap water at races, walks, festivals and other outside events. The unit requires connection to an electrical source, such as an electrical outlet or a generator, and a tap water source, such as a fire hydrant. Supporting Local and Global Needs

American Water, the parent company of Kentucky American Water, has named United Way and Water for People its Charities of Choice. Each year, American Water employees from across the nation participate in a nationwide campaign for these organizations. Kentucky American Water's contributions to United Way support United Way of the Bluegrass. Water for People is a nonprofit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping bring basic water and hygiene services to people in developing countries.
