Being a good neighbor is part of our mission at Missouri American Water. We demonstrate that commitment every day with programs that support the communities we serve.
We promote water education through school partnerships in Joplin and St. Joseph and the Missouri American Water High School Water Quality Research Award for outstanding high school-level research. We also support the connection between water and health through annual sponsorship of the St. Charles Community College Health Fair.
As your water provider, we strive to be good stewards of the environment. Missouri American Water is the only utility that is a member of the Missouri Environmental Management Program, sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. The program recognizes companies who continuously improve their environmental performance.
Our Wings Over Water program is a partnership between Missouri American Water and the World Bird Sanctuary in Valley Park, Mo., in which the World Bird Sanctuary brings its unique collection of bird species to presentations and events across the state, including at the Independence Day celebration at the capitol in Jefferson City each July 4th. We also work with local schools to offer World Bird Sanctuary presentations to students, giving children the opportunity to learn about both the birds and the importance of a clean watershed to people and birds alike.
Missouri American Water also participates in a number of community events across our service area. In the St. Louis area, we take part in the annual Arnold Days festival and Operation Clean Stream, an annual cleanup of debris along the Meramec River. Our employees take part annually in the American Cancer Society Walk in Warrensburg, Paint the Parkway Pink in St. Joseph, The Shoal Creek Water Festival in Joplin and the Veterans Day Parade in Branson. In Saint Joseph, completion of a nature center along the Missouri River provides the opportunity to show the water treatment process from the source to the tap.
We are the title sponsor of the Missouri River 340 (MR340), a 340-mile canoe/kayak/paddleboard race down the Missouri River from Kansas City, Kan. to St. Charles, Mo., as well as title sponsor of the Race to the Dome, a more 26- or 16-mile leisurely paddle down the river to Jefferson City. Both of these events bring awareness to the importance of the river to our state.
The Missouri Prescription Pill and Drug Disposal (P2D2) is a collaborative effort among communities, police departments, city officials, students, and more to educate the public about the best ways to dispose of prescription and non-prescription drugs to protect our health and our environment, and was co-founded by Missouri American Water. The mission of the program is to provide St. Louis County communities with a responsible method of pharmaceutical disposal that effectively reduces the misuse and abuse of pharmaceuticals, as well as, ensures the quality of water in our rivers and for future generations.
We also help customers in need through the H20 Help for Others Program – a financial assistance program funded primarily by Missouri American Water, to help customers pay their water bills and learn water-saving techniques.
In addition, our employees are active in local chambers of commerce, economic development, civic and charitable groups, all of which support the communities where we live and work.
