Billing & Payment Information

As a customer of New Jersey American Water, providing you with the best customer service possible is our priority. We work diligently to provide exceptional value to our customers. We strive to keep rates as low as possible while still meeting quality and service standards. We will also work with customers to provide special payment options to meet special needs. 

How to Read Your Bill

Payment Options

In New Jersey, we offer several easy ways to pay your bill:

Pay by Mail

For customers with an account number beginning with 18, mail your check to:
    New Jersey American Water
    P.O. Box 371331
    Pittsburgh, PA 15250-7331

    Overnight payments should be mailed to:
    Mellon Bank
    Attention: Lockbox 371331
    500 Ross Street
    Pittsburgh, PA 15251

For customers with an account number beginning with 52 and 53, mail your check to:

To avoid processing delays, include the pre-addressed payment stub, write your account number and address on your check or money order, use the envelope provided and do not send paper clips, staples or cash.

Pay Automatically – No stamps required

Save time and money. Sign up for our Automatic Payment Program, and your bill will be paid on time, every time, directly from your checking or savings account on the date it is due. No stamps required. You will still receive a copy of your bill before the due date, so you will have time to ask any questions before payment. Best of all, it’s totally free! To enroll in the program, simply complete enrollment form and mail or fax it back to us. Please note: This payment option is not offered to customers in Avalon. 

Pay by Phone or on Online

With our new self-service web site, My H2O Online, residential customers can pay bills online with your Visa or MasterCard or with an e-check, when it is convenient. You can also manage your account and keep track of your history of water use and account activity for up to two years.

You also can pay your bill by calling 866.271.5522. There is a small fee per transaction for credit card payments. Be sure to have your 10-digit account number – located on the upper right corner of your current bill – handy. Commercial customers and any others who are unable to register on the site can pay online by visiting

Pay in Person

New Jersey American Water has agreements with numerous businesses across the state where you can pay your bill in person. These locations include supermarkets and drug stores. Please note, this list changes periodically. Customers are encouraged to call the location first, to ensure they still accept payments for New Jersey American Water. Payment Assistance

At New Jersey American Water, we believe fresh, clean water is a resource that should be made available to everyone. That is why we offer two programs to provide assistance to low-income families. For customers who have fallen on difficult financial times, New Jersey American Water’s H2O Help to Others Program™ and Low Income Payment Programs are offered to provide assistance for customers who qualify. Payment Arrangements

If you cannot pay your bill by the due date, please contact our customer service center BEFORE the due date. We’re available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at:

  • Customers whose accounts begin with 18 should call 1.800.652.6987 (1.800.NJ.AM WTR)
  • Customers whose accounts begin with 52 and 53 should call 1.800.272.1325

When you call, our customer service representatives will work with you on a plan to pay the balance of the bill over time. These payment arrangements require you to:

  • Pay at least 25% of your bill within 48 hours of your call.
  • Pay the rest of the bill, including any applicable late payment charge according to an agreed upon schedule, not to exceed six months.
  • Pay all future bills as they become due.

New Jersey American Water will create these payment arrangements only with customers who have not broken a similar agreement with us in the past twelve months.
