Community Programs

Being a good neighbor is part of our mission at American Water. We are dedicated to New Jersey and do make sure we show it. We give back to the community by supporting innovative, environmental grant programs that improve, protect or restore drinking water supplies and surrounding watersheds.

Environmental Grant Program

Each year, New Jersey American Water provides grants of up to $10,000 for community-based projects that improve, restore and protect our source water and surrounding watersheds. Learn more about our Environmental Grant Program.

Toughbooks for Tough Volunteers

New Jersey American Water launched a program that provides ruggedized Toughbook computers to non-profit organizations, primarily volunteer firefighters and emergency responders in the company’s service areas. New Jersey American Water has a scheduled replacement program for some of its computer hardware including rugged Toughbook computers. Many of these, though fully depreciated, are still in good working order. Donated Toughbooks have no operating system nor any other software loaded onto them. Qualifying organizations should be a volunteer emergency services organization located within New Jersey American Water's service territory. For more information, or to request a Toughbook computer as they become available, please contact

Volunteer Firefighter and Emergency Responder Grant Program

New Jersey American Water applauds the men and women who volunteer for and support our community’s fire departments. You provide an invaluable service to the community through enhanced fire protection. As a fellow partner serving the community, we thank you for your hard work and dedication. As a show of our appreciation, New Jersey American Water launched a Volunteer Firefighter and Emergency Responder Grant Program, to provide support for our local fire departments in the communities we serve. Grants of up to $1,000 are provided to fire and emergency organizations within our service area to assist them with purchasing emergency equipment and training materials.
