The employees of Pennsylvania American Water play an active role in the communities we serve by getting involved in a variety of environmental and educational activities related to water – everything from watershed clean-up efforts to school programs focused on drinking water and source water protection. Below are some of the community programs we're supporting.

FEBRUARY

Pennsylvania American Water’s Stream of Learning Scholarship Program

Applications due Feb. 12, 2010.

Pennsylvania American Water’s Stream of Learning Scholarship Program was created to provide post-secondary scholarship assistance to students living in Pennsylvania American Water’s service areas who plan a course of study critical to the water and wastewater industry. To apply for a $2,000 scholarship, view our scholarship rules and application. Winners to be announced in May.

Earth Day Along the Susquehanna River

Pennsylvania American Water will be participating in the Wilkes-Barre Riverfront Parks Committee's Earth Day Along the Susquehanna River. There will be 25-30 educational stations that groups of students (mostly grades 4 -7) rotate through with their teachers and chaperones. Pennsylvania American Water will be hosting a station on water treatment. More than 1,000 students are expected to be in attendance. For more information, teachers can call 570-825-1701.

Pennsylvania American Water’s Protect Our Watershed Art Contest

Winners to be announced in May.

Pennsylvania American Water holds an annual Protect Our Watersheds art contest. Open to fifth-grade classes in schools served by Pennsylvania American Water—or to individual fifth-graders who live in communities served by the company—the contest encourages students to utilize their artistic talents to express the importance of protecting Pennsylvania’s watersheds and water resources. As part of the entry, students are asked to write a short description of how watershed protection impacts them personally.

Contest applications were mailed to elementary schools served by Pennsylvania American Water.
