Green Solutions

It’s no secret that the earth’s water supply is dwindling, and it’s no secret that there is a growing need to develop and perfect new processes and technologies to preserve and recycle what supply we do have.

The lack of adequate water supply can pose numerous problems to development and slow the growth. Bringing water to areas where it doesn’t exist, or is in short supply is another challenge that American Water is helping businesses and communities overcome. Our teams have helped to plan and build infrastructure for all types of projects. We’ve worked with new residential communities, shopping malls, office buildings and international corporations to provide them with water and wastewater services.

Over the past few years, American Water experts have become involved in projects that help to recycle water supply and tap into sources that have been previously out of reach. At Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts, and at the Solaire luxury high-rise apartment building in New York City, our expertise has been tapped to develop self-contained wastewater recycling systems that save water by treating and reusing water that is used inside the buildings.

We also helped rehabilitate and currently operate The Tampa Bay Seawater Desalination Plant, the largest of its kind in the United States. The project converts ocean water to drinking water and serves a wide area of residents and businesses in the drought-prone area in Florida. The facility helps to ensure that high quality water remains available in these areas and that the conversion process is safe and environmentally sound.
