Coming Soon in Alexandria and Hopewell: A Separate Bill for Sewer/Wastewater Charges
Beginning October 2012, Alexandria and Hopewell customers’ Virginia American Water bills will no longer include charges for wastewater/sewer services.
In both Alexandria and Hopewell, you will continue to receive your regular Virginia American Water bill for water service. Virginia American Water is working with the sewer/wastewater authorities in Alexandria and Hopewell to make this transition a smooth one for our customers.

Why is this change occurring?
For many years, Virginia American Water has provided third-party billing services for Alexandria Renew Enterprises (formerly Alexandria Sanitation Authority), the City of Hopewell and Hopewell Wastewater Treatment Facility. In 2012, Virginia America Water made the strategic decision to exit the third-party billing services line of business to focus on its core service of providing high-quality water services to its Hopewell and Alexandria customers.
What does this change mean for me?
You will continue to receive your regular Virginia American Water bills. These bills will include the following charges for water: Current Water Charges and Other Current Charges. You will receive a separate bill for sewer/wastewater charges, either from Alexandria Renew Enterprises if you live in Alexandria or from the City of Hopewell if you live in Hopewell.
When will separate billing begin?
You will receive your regular Virginia American Water bill at the same frequency you now receive it. Separate billing for sewer/wastewater charges will begin in October 2012.
How are customers being notified?
During the summer, Virginia American Water is including in residential bills an insert announcing the change. Commercial customers will also receive a separate bill insert.
Do I need to take any action now?
No, there is nothing you need to do.
Can I pay my Virginia American Water bill online?
Yes! You can sign up to pay your water bills online, check your account balance, and turn service off and on by registering for My H2O Online.
