Tampa Bay Seawater Desalination Facility (TBSWDF)

American Water - Acciona Agua (AWAA) operates and maintains the Tampa Bay Seawater Desalination Facility (TBSWDF) on behalf of the owner, Tampa Bay Water (TBW). The 20-year contract services agreement is an Operation, Maintenance and Management services agreement started on November 15, 2004.

Tampa Bay Water is Florida’s largest wholesale water provider and Tampa’s Regional Water Supply Authority. This regional agency was created by an inter-local agreement among its member governments (through state enabling legislation) to develop, store and supply water for county or municipal purposes. Tampa Bay Water’s member governments are Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties and the cities of New Port Richey, St. Petersburg and Tampa. These member governments serve nearly 2 million residents in the tri-county area. As part of this regional authority, TBW delivers high quality water from multiple supply sources and their respective treatment facilities, one of which is the Tampa Bay Seawater Desalination Facility.

TBSWDF operates seasonally as an alternative source of drinking water for the Tampa Bay area and continues to produce drinking water during the months of October to June (the dry season).
