Attention Peoria Customers: Illinois regularly monitors and tests drinking water within our system for lead and other contaminants. Recent sampling at customer-owned Peoria locations with known lead service lines found elevated lead levels. We want to assure you that this is NOT a community-wide condition, and results are specific to the sites where the sampling occurred.

Water leaving our treatment facilities does NOT contain lead and is safe to drink. Lead can, however, enter the water through customer-owned service lines and internal plumbing. That’s why Illinois American Water is doing our part to keep your drinking water safe by fortifying the system against lead through corrosion control and proactively inventorying and replacing customer-owned lead and qualifying galvanized steel water service lines. We’ve replaced 2,800 lines in Peoria to date and are expediting upcoming replacements in the area.

You can find more information about our lead service line replacement program and learn how to reduce your potential exposure to lead on the page below or the Illinois American Water Alerts page.
