St. Louis County’s Central Plant Basins Replacement Project
Missouri American Water is investing in critical infrastructure improvements through the Central Plant Basins 1–7 Replacement Project. This project will replace aging water treatment components and expand treatment capacity to better meet both current needs and future water demand across the St. Louis region.
The work will be completed in multiple phases, helping to ensure continued reliability of service throughout construction. Phase 1 is currently underway, marking a significant step forward in strengthening the region’s water treatment system.
Phase 1:
Phase 1 includes the construction and installation of several key facilities designed to enhance treatment efficiency and operational reliability:
- Two rapid mix basins
- Three flocculation and settling basins
- Sodium hypochlorite disinfection and carbon dioxide facility
- Low lift pump station
- Outfall chemical building
- Sludge and backwash pump station with river outfall
- Electrical switchgear
These improvements will modernize core treatment processes and support long-term system performance, helping ensure safe, reliable water service for the communities we serve.
