Illinois American Water’s Cairo District Completes Repairs; Boil Water Order Lifted

Cairo, Ill. (Feb. 24, 2021) — Illinois American Water has lifted the boil water order issued to Cairo customers on Friday, Feb. 18, 2021. Customers can resume normal water usage.

During the boil water order, a series of water quality tests were performed to confirm drinking water met regulatory drinking water standards. Samples were taken from sites in the affected area and tests confirmed the water meets all state and federal requirements. It is no longer necessary for customers to boil their water before drinking or cooking.

According to Mike Brown, operations superintendent for the Cairo District, the local team repaired several leaks which had resulted from the extreme cold temperatures last week.  He said, “I am proud of our team.  They worked around the clock in challenging weather to make repairs as quickly and as safely as possible.  They truly care about our customers and are committed to providing excellent service.”

Customers are being notified about the boil water order lift via media outreach, customer calls and Illinois American Water website updates at www.illinoisamwater.com.
