Iowa American Water Invites Community to “WATER FEST” Celebration

Dateline City:
DAVENPORT, Iowa

FREE family-friendly open house will take place today from 4 – 7 p.m. at the East River Station Treatment Plant in Davenport

Learn more about your drinking water while having fun on a summer evening! Iowa American Water is inviting customers and the community to experience the wonderful world of water at its WATER FEST celebration happening today from 4 – 7 p.m. at the East River Station Treatment Plant in Davenport. The treatment plant is located at 1719 East River Drive in Davenport near the Village of East Davenport.

WATER FEST will kick off with a ribbon cutting and water toast with the Quad City Chamber ambassadors at 4:15 p.m. The FREE, family-friendly open house will offer guided water treatment plant tours, educational displays, children’s activities, games and prizes and FREE food. The company will also debut its mascot “Puddles” during the event. Attendees can also enter a drawing to win one of several prizes. The event will be held rain or shine.

“We are finding that our customers are increasingly interested in how we transform the Mississippi River into the high quality drinking water that flows from their taps,” said Iowa American Water President Randy Moore. “WATER FEST allows customers and the entire Quad Cities community to meet our professional team who works 24/7 to produce and deliver reliable, high quality water to over 130,000 people in the Iowa Quad Cities. We encourage everyone to learn more about their drinking water and the complex processes that are involved in getting it to their homes and businesses.”

The first-ever WATER FEST is designed to provide the community with an up-close, informative and fun view of how water drawn from the Mississippi River is transformed into nationally-recognized, high quality drinking water. Besides guided plant tours and educational demonstrations by Iowa American Water staff, there will be plenty of activities, games and prizes for children along with free food. “It is the perfect back-to-school event because it will feel like a summer festival, and the kids will not even realize they are learning the entire time,” added Moore.

To accommodate parking needs, visitors to WATER FEST can park in one of several nearby public lots including:

  • Lindsay Park Boat Club (west lot) – Turn south (towards river) at the intersection of Mound Street and E. River Drive
  • Northeast corner of Mound Street and River Drive (in Village of East Davenport)
  • Oneida Avenue and E. River Drive (north of railroad tracks and across the street from old Wonder Bread building)

After parking, guests should walk along the riverfront bike path towards the water treatment plant and enter at the center gate in the floodwall. Golf carts will be travelling along the bike path between Oneida Avenue and the Lindsay Park Boat Club to offer rides to visitors needing some assistance.

More information about the event is available on the company website and FaceBook page.
