DAVENPORT, Iowa
Iowa American Water has received the “15-Year Directors Award” from the
Partnership for Safe Water, a program developed by EPA, the American
Water Works Association, and associated Partner organizations to guide
water utilities towards improving water quality by optimizing system
operations.
Iowa American Water’s East River Station was presented this award for
successfully maintaining the program’s Directors Award level of
performance for a 15-year period. The Directors Award was originally
achieved by completing the Self-Assessment and Peer Review phase of the
Partnership program, a phase which includes comprehensive evaluation of
treatment plant operations and performance, identification of
performance limiting factors, and the development of action plans to
achieve optimization. The plant was one of a select group of utilities
honored by the Partnership at the annual conference of the American
Water Works Association, the largest and oldest worldwide organization
dedicated to safe water.
“We are honored to receive this award,” said President Randy Moore. “Our
utility’s goal is to continually strive to optimize operations and
improve the quality of water we deliver to our customers. Achievement of
the 15-Year Directors Award demonstrates our ongoing commitment to
protecting public health and the dedication our water treatment
professionals and our entire team have to our customers.”
Iowa American Water was the first Iowa water utility to join the
Partnership over 20 years ago and also the first in the state to be
recognized with the Directors Award. Currently, there are only two water
utilities in the state that have been recipients of the Directors Award.
The Partnership for Safe Water is a voluntary self-assessment and
optimization program for water treatment plant and distribution system
operation. More than 250 utility subscribers, collectively serving more
than 100 million people, are committed to the Partnership’s goals of
providing safe, high-quality drinking water through achieving
operational excellence in water treatment. Partnership members
participate in a rigorous four-phase self-assessment and peer review
process, developed by water utility optimization experts, and are
recognized for their commitment to delivering safe water to their
communities.
