Water Main Improvement Project on East Adair Street and Old Sweet Owen Road Begins

LEXINGTON, Ky., (December 3, 2020) – Kentucky American Water has started a water main improvement project on East Adair Street and Old Sweet Owen Road in Owenton, Ky. The project involves upgrading approximately 1,000 feet of small diameter water main with larger, 6-inch and 8-inch-diameter water mains and is expected to be complete by May 1, 2021, depending on weather and other construction factors.

The project, which will total approximately $430,000 in investment, involves upgrading existing water mains and valves that are more than 50 years old. Crews will be working on East Adair Street, from north of Green Acres Road to Horizon Circle; Old Sweet Owen Road to Harris Ridge Road; and Howard Ellis Road from the Owen County Fairgrounds to west of East Adair Street.

The project may result in minor traffic impact at times within the work area on East Adair Street and Howard Ellis Road, but no road closures are anticipated. Motorists are encouraged to be extra cautious when traveling through work zones, for their own safety and for the safety of those working on the project.

This water main improvement project is among approximately $8 million worth of efforts approved this year by the Kentucky Public Service Commission for Kentucky American Water’s new Qualified Infrastructure Program (QIP). The QIP enables the company to replace aging water system infrastructure at a quicker pace before it becomes potentially more problematic.
