
Maryland American Water Invests $5.3 Million in System Upgrades Statewide in 2024
Proactive capital investments are important to maintaining service reliability, water quality and flow for fire protection
Bel Air, MD – March 24, 2025 – Maryland American Water announced today its 2024 investment for water system upgrades totaled more than $5.3 million throughout its service areas.

We do this because we care about our customers, and we have a commitment to providing high-quality service throughout the communities we serve.”
Maryland American Water’s annual investments include upgrades and improvements to the company’s water infrastructure, including treatment plants, tanks, pump stations, pipes, fire hydrants and metering equipment.
System improvement highlights for 2024 include:
- Water Mains: An $843,000 investment to install, replace or rehabilitate more than 570 feet of aging water main. Pipe improvement projects help ensure water service reliability and increase water flows for household use and firefighting.
- Service Lines: A $226,000 investment to replace and install new water service lines.
- Water Treatment and Production System Improvements: Completion of improvements at the Winters Run Water Treatment Plant (WTP), including updating the water treatment process to increase disinfection and meet enhanced surface water treatment regulations by installing an ultraviolet (UV) system. This multi-year project saw a total investment of $3.5 million. Additionally, there was a $218,000 investment at the Winters Run WTP to continue the ability to provide high-quality drinking water to the Town of Bel Air.
- Water Meters: A $160,000 investment to install and upgrade to automatic meter reading (AMR) technology throughout our service areas.
In addition, Maryland American Water invested nearly $53,000 on the installation and replacement of fire hydrants, valves and manholes throughout its water distribution systems.
Maryland American Water is continually investing in the local communities where it operates to replace water infrastructure that is reaching the end of its useful life to improve service for residents.
