Missouri American Water Begins Work to Paint Hydrants in Maryland Heights

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Missouri American Water has begun work to paint fire hydrants in Maryland Heights.
The company has contracted with Whitehead Brothers LLC to paint roughly 400 hydrants in and around Maryland Heights installed prior to 1970.
The hydrant painting process involves sandblasting the hydrants to remove old paint, painting the hydrant with a primer, which is white, and then returning days later to apply a fresh coat of paint to the hydrant.
“A lot of people don’t realize that the hydrant cap color directly corresponds to the main size and therefore we cannot customize hydrants,” said Bethany Jenkins, operations supervisor for Missouri American Water. “Residents might notice white hydrants, but they shouldn’t worry, they’re not being vandalized, this is just an Infrastructure Improvement project.”
Local fire protection districts and public works department have been notified. This project began earlier this week and should continue over the next couple of months.
