New Jersey American Water Invests $1.8 Million in Barrington Infrastructure
CAMDEN, N.J. – OCT. 7, 2021 – New Jersey American Water will replace approximately 8,940 feet of aging water main in Barrington starting next week. The project also includes replacing eight fire hydrants and 195 utility-owned service lines along the pipeline route. The company will upgrade the aging 6-inch and 8-inch Transite and steel water lines that were installed in the 1940s with new 6- and 8-inch ductile iron main along the following streets:
- Tavistock Boulevard from Warwick Road to Chesterfield Road
- Wayne Road from Tavistock Boulevard to Warwick Road
- Oakwood Road from Tavistock Boulevard to Chesterfield Road
- Chesterfield Road from Oakwood Road to South Nassau Drive
- Copley Road from Chesterfield Road to about 287 Copley Road
- Copley Place North and South each from Copley Road to the end of roadway
- Warwick Road from Mercer Drive to Independence Boulevard
This $1.8 million investment will continue to advance water service reliability and increase water flows for household consumption and fire protection in this community. This improvement is part of New Jersey American Water’s multimillion-dollar initiative to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life in more than 100 communities across the state.
New Jersey American Water’s local, qualified contractor, Pioneer Pipe Contractors, Inc. will begin work the week of October 11 and expects to be completed by the end of February, weather permitting. Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Work outside of these hours is not expected unless required to maintain project schedule. Final street restorations will be completed in the spring of 2022.
For the public’s and workers’ safety, traffic restrictions and/or alternating traffic patterns are likely to occur during work hours. All emergency vehicles and local traffic will be allowed access during construction.
