New Jersey American Water Making Emergency Repairs to Water Main Valve

Customers are asked to conserve water usage, may experience reduced water pressure during repair

CAMDEN, N.J. – JUNE 19, 2020 – New Jersey American Water will be making emergency repairs to a leaking valve attached to a 36-inch water source pipeline on Passaic Avenue in West Caldwell beginning at approximately 2 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2020.

During the repair process, water is safe to use but customers in several towns may experience reduced water pressure and/or discolored water. The company is asking customers in these towns to conserve water usage during this time.  Work is expected to be completed and water service restored to normal by approximately 2 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2020.

New Jersey American Water customers in the following towns may be affected:

  • Florham Park

  • Chatham Township

  • New Providence

  • Berkley Heights

  • Summit

  • Long Hill

New Jersey American Water is asking residents in these communities to refrain from any non-essential water uses, such as watering lawns and washing cars. Customers should also conserve water use inside their homes during this time. Conservation tips are available on the company’s website at www.newjerseyamwater.com, under the Water Information tab.

Repairs are expected to take approximately 12 hours. The company asks people in the area to consider alternate driving routes as traffic may be impacted.

When service is restored to normal, customers may experience cloudy and or discolored water. If your water is discolored, run the cold water at the lowest level of the house for about 3 to 5 minutes until it clears before using. Repeat this flushing step once or twice within an hour as necessary until the water clears.

If customers have a question, they may call the Customer Service Center at 1-800-272-1325. More information and a map of the affected area is available on the company’s website at www.newjerseyamwater.com under Alert Notifications.
