Stay Alert While Crews are at Work!
New Jersey American Water Highlights Work Zone Awareness Week
CAMDEN, N.J. – APRIL 17, 2025 – Next week, New Jersey American Water is highlighting National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW), which runs from April 21 to April 25 this year. NWZAW is a public awareness campaign working to help Americans understand the role they play in keeping motorists and roadway workers safe and has been observed for over 20 years. This year’s theme is “Respect the zone so we all get home.”
“Our crews and contractors are out in the field every day, working in and around roadways to provide reliable service for our customers,” said Ben Morris, Vice President of Operations for New Jersey American Water. “While safety is always top of mind for us, work zones can still pose serious risks. National Work Zone Awareness Week is a reminder that we all share the responsibility of keeping our roads, and the people working on them, safe.”
New Jersey American Water invests hundreds of millions of dollars into its infrastructure each year and has over 50 crews working around the state on any given day. Whether the company is working to upgrade water and wastewater infrastructure or performing routine maintenance and cleaning, New Jersey American Water’s top priority is keeping crews and motorists safe.
“Our employees are someone’s neighbors, friends, and family, and just like you, they deserve to get home safely,” said Morris. “When you slow down and stay alert in work zones, you're helping protect lives, including your own.”
New Jersey American Water provides these simple rules when driving through work zones:
- Stay Alert. Pay attention to flaggers, workers, and equipment, and be prepared for sudden stops.
- Slow down. Follow all posted speed limits and adjust for traffic flows and weather conditions.
- Give yourself some space. Leave at least three seconds of braking room between other vehicles.
The company will highlight NWZAW on its social media channels all week and will send a work zone safety email message to all customers this month. To learn more about New Jersey American Water’s commitment to safety, visit newjerseyamwater.com.
