Final Phase of $34 Million Becks Run Road Water Main Replacement Project Begins April 7

Pennsylvania American Water announces new traffic patterns as water system upgrade nears completion

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (April 4, 2025) Pennsylvania American Water and its contractors are nearing completion of the replacement project for new 42-inch water mains along Becks Run Road, which borders Baldwin Borough and the City of Pittsburgh. Work will begin on Monday, April 7, for the final section of the major infrastructure investment project associated with the Hays Mine Treatment Plant.

“This project was significant in scope, yet vital to the 137,000 residents served by the Hays Mine Treatment Plant,” said Project Manager Morgan Castle. “We have been mindful of the residents, businesses, buses and emergency vehicles and have committed to accommodating them during construction.”

Beginning on Monday, motorists traveling south on Becks Run Road will be able to access all residences and businesses along the road. However, due to the construction activity, they will not be able to access Wagner Street.

Motorists traveling north on Becks Run Road will need to turn onto Wagner Street but can still access all residences and businesses along Becks Run Road via East Carson Street. Construction for the replacement project is expected to be completed by mid-summer.

So far, Pennsylvania American Water has installed nearly three miles of new water mains along the northern and southern parts of Becks Run Road. The company asks motorists to continue using caution and obey all safety warnings throughout the construction zone.

In addition to the water main project, Pennsylvania America Water has also made significant investments and upgrades to its Hays Mine Treatment Plant, including the replacement of the plant’s caustic tanks, the solids handling equipment and the plant’s16 filters, all of which are essential for maintaining a high level of water quality.
