New $2.3 million Pump Station Replacement to Start in Milton

SCRANTON, Pa. (May 12, 2022) – Pennsylvania American Water today announced the construction of a new water pump station along Old US-15 in West Milton.  This $2.3 million investment project will increase reliability of the water supply in the area and allow the company to meet increased water demands. Construction is scheduled to begin this month and should be completed by the end of the year.

Starting later this month, company contractors will begin construction of the new pump station, which replaces an existing pump station located on River Road.  An on-site emergency generator will help provide continued water service during a power outage.  Additionally, approximately 2,400 feet of new 12-inch pipe will be installed along Old US-15 and High Street, connecting the new pump station to the water distribution system.

“The original pump station serving the area was constructed in 1967 and is located in a floodplain,” said Ewoud Hulstein, Pennsylvania American Water project manager.  “This investment in our infrastructure allows us to meet current and future water demands of the communities we serve.”

The current pump station on River Road will be taken out of service and demolition of the facility is scheduled for early 2023.

Crews will be working weekdays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.  Customer water service will not be impacted while these upgrades are underway.

This infrastructure upgrade project is not only an important investment in public health and safety, it also helps support the economic health of the communities we serve. Economic impact studies show that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, upwards of 15 jobs are generated throughout the economy. Through our continued investments, Pennsylvania American Water’s 2021 and 2022 infrastructure upgrade projects will support more than 3,700 jobs each year. Statewide, Pennsylvania American Water invested approximately $373 million in 2021 alone to improve our water and wastewater treatment and pipeline systems.

Pennsylvania American Water, a subsidiary of American Water (NYSE: AWK), is the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, providing high-quality and reliable water and wastewater services to approximately 2.3 million people.
