Pennsylvania American Water Announces $3.2 Million Water System Upgrade

Project scheduled to begin in Mt. Lebanon on May 16

Pittsburgh, Pa. (May 11, 2022) – Pennsylvania American Water announced today the start of construction to replace approximately 9,000 feet of aging water mains in Mt. Lebanon to improve service reliability and fire protection for residents.

The cost of these system improvements is approximately $3.2 million. The water mains will be replaced with new 8-inch ductile iron mains.

“Our customers in Mt. Lebanon rely on us to provide safe, reliable water service,” said Jack Beal, senior superintendent of field operations for Pennsylvania American Water. “By constantly upgrading our infrastructure, we’re planning to keep it that way. Think of it as your water bill at work – right in your own neighborhood.”

The company will be replacing water mains along Ashland Avenue from Hemlock Street to Poplar Drive and along Shady Drive East to Castle Shannon Boulevard. Work will also be performed along Oak Way to Coolridge Avenue to Meadowcroft Avenue; along Blue Spruce Circle and Pinetree Road to Larchmont Street; along Shady Lane from Thornwood Drive to South Meadowcroft Avenue and along Bower Hill Road.

Weather permitting, the contractor, Casper Colosimo, will complete the project this spring.

Work hours will be Monday – Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Customers will be notified prior to the start of construction. Work outside of these hours is not expected unless required to maintain the project schedule.

While we connect the new main to the distribution system, customers may experience a temporary service interruption. Customers might also experience a slight discoloration of water. If this happens, run the water until it is clear.

Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences. Once the pipe is installed, a temporary restoration will take place in the excavated area.
