Pennsylvania American Water Announces $4 Million Butler County Water System Upgrade

Projects scheduled to begin Wednesday

BUTLER, Pa. (Feb. 7, 2022) – Pennsylvania American Water announced today the start of construction to replace 4,600 feet of aging water main in Butler County to improve service reliability and fire protection for residents. The combined cost of these system improvements is approximately $4 million.

Weather permitting, Pennsylvania American Water contractors will start upgrading a water main along North Elm Street, from East Locust Street to East Jefferson Street, in the City of Butler on Wednesday, Feb. 9.

Water main upgrades in the following areas will occur throughout the remainder of 2022:

City of Butler

  • East Brady Street
  • 3rd Street
  • Brugh Avenue
  • Fairview Avenue
  • McKinley Avenue and Federal Street
  • Sullivan and Isabella Streets
  • Ridge Avenue
  • McGeary and Gibson Streets
  • Diamond, South Church, and Saint Vero Streets
  • West Wayne Street

Butler Township

  • Meridian Road

Connoquenessing Township

  • Reiber Road

Work hours are 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work on weekends and evenings is not expected unless required to maintain the project schedule. Completion of these projects is expected in late summer 2022.

While we connect the new main to the distribution system, customers may experience a temporary service interruption. Customers might also experience a slight discoloration of water. If this happens, run the water until it is clear.

Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences. Once the pipe is installed, a temporary restoration will take place in the excavated area.

Final street restoration will be completed in the fall of 2022. Company employees and contractors will exercise caution and follow CDC guidance for social distancing and hygiene while performing this work.
