Pennsylvania American Water Hosts Public Officials for Tour of $15 Million Washington County Water Treatment System Upgrade

Elrama, Pa. (August 2, 2022) – Pennsylvania American Water representatives today joined state and local officials to tour infrastructure improvements at the company’s EH Aldrich Treatment Plant in Elrama, Washington County.

“This $15 million investment will upgrade water treatment processes and enhance system reliability and resilience for communities in southern Allegheny and northern Washington counties,” said Mike Doran, president of Pennsylvania American Water.

Dignitaries were provided a rare opportunity to view the inside of the Shire Oaks water storage tank, a 5-million-gallon facility being rehabilitated to extend its service life and help protect water quality. Rehabilitation of the water storage tank began this past spring and will be completed later this summer.

“This event was a wonderful opportunity to see these significant investments by Pennsylvania American Water,” said State Senator Camera Bartolotta. “Nothing is more important to our residents than safe, clean, dependable drinking water.”

Construction of a 715,000-gallon water clarifying tank is underway at the treatment plant, which will help provide redundancy and will assist in the disposal of solids removed during the water treatment process.

“This tour put into perspective all of the infrastructure needed to deliver safe drinking water to our communities,” said Terri Gladus, Manager of Union Township. “It also was an impressive display of Pennsylvania American Water’s strong commitment to ongoing investment in our community’s water infrastructure.”

Completion of these treatment plant upgrades is expected by December 2023.

Pennsylvania American Water, a subsidiary of American Water (NYSE: AWK), is the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, providing high-quality and reliable water and wastewater services to approximately 2.4 million people.
