Philipsburg Water System Set for Major Enhancements with $18M Investment
PHILIPSBURG, Pa. (May 8, 2025) – Pennsylvania American Water announced several significant infrastructure projects today to improve water system reliability, quality and service for customers in its Philipsburg water system. These projects, totaling over $18 million and spanning the next several years, include the construction of new storage tanks and booster pump stations and extensive pipeline replacement projects.
“Providing reliable service to our customers means continuous investment in our systems’ infrastructure,” said Bruce Brubaker, Engineering Manager for Pennsylvania American Water. “We prioritize projects based on several factors, including the need for larger capacity, the age of existing infrastructure and any history of service interruptions. These projects will enable us to continue providing the high-quality service our customers expect and deserve.”
Projects that are underway to improve the Philipsburg system include:
- Philipsburg 1-million gallon storage tank and clearwell: Construction of a second water storage tank at the Philipsburg plant to enhance storage capacity and reliability. A new clearwell will also be built, which is a final holding tank for treated water, providing contact time for the disinfection process.
- Linnwood and Sandy Ridge booster pump stations: Two existing, buried booster pump stations will be replaced with new above-ground stations equipped with emergency generators providing additional reliability to the pressure gradients.
- Emigh Run project: Construction of two new booster pump stations and the installation of more than 2 miles of water main connecting them will provide additional reliability to the water system.
- Trout Run improvements: An additional well will be drilled to improve reliability and redundancy within the system.
During some of the construction, customers may experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water and/or lower than normal water pressure. Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences. For worksite safety, Pennsylvania American Water asks that members of the public do not approach its employees or contractors. For more information, contact the company’s customer service center at 1-800-565-7292.
This infrastructure upgrade project is not only an important investment in public health and safety, it also helps support the economic health of the community. Economic impact studies show that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, upwards of 15 jobs are generated throughout the economy. Statewide, Pennsylvania American Water invested approximately $675 million in 2024 alone to improve our water and wastewater treatment and pipeline systems, supporting more than 10,125 jobs through these continued investments.
