Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy Students to Tour Association of Visual Arts Watercolor Exhibit
Dateline City:
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.
Tour Part of Mentorship Program with Tennessee American Water
As part of their year-long mentorship program with Tennessee American
Water, 11 Chattanoooga Girls Leadership Academy (CGLA) tenth-grade
students will tour the Association of Visual Arts (AVA) current
watercolor exhibit. Two local artists who have artwork on display -
Sandy Boone and Jennie Kirkpatrick – will speak to the girls about their
careers as professional artists.
“I wanted the girls to experience some of the art that is made available
to all of the community through AVA while showing them how water touches
so many aspects of our lives – including art,” said Tennessee American
Water External Affairs Manager Daphne Kirksey. “The visit will also
demonstrate first-hand a community partnership between an organization
and a company.”
The artwork is part of the traveling Tennessee Watercolor Society’s 35th
Juried Exhibition traveling show. Exhibits
at AVA are free to the community.
Each month, the CGLA students come to Tennessee American Water to learn
about different careers as a water professional. In October the girls
are learning about External Affairs. Future sessions will cover GIS
mapping from Tennessee American Water’s spatial engineer and will
include a geocaching treasure hunt using mapping as well as a
presentation from the water quality team with hands-on experiments and
testing.
The students will be at AVA, 30 Frazier Avenue, at 11 a.m. on Thursday,
October 27.
