Virginia American Water Invests $1.325M in Westmoreland County Infrastructure

ALEXANDRIA, V.A. – September 4, 2020 – Virginia American Water will install a new pump station with a permanent generator, a hydropneumatics (pressure) tank and a storage tank at Stratford Drive in Colonial Beach beginning on or about the week of September 14.

This $1,325,000 investment will ensure water service reliability and increase well and storage capacity at the Potomac/Westmoreland Shores system to meet increased projected demands and Virginia Department of Health requirements. This improvement is part of Virginia American Water’s multimillion-dollar initiative to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life in our communities across the state.

Virginia American Water’s contractor, Bowen, will begin work along Stratford Drive on or about September 14 and expects to finish in early 2021, weather permitting. Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work outside of these hours is not expected unless required to maintain the project schedule.

For the safety of workers and the public, traffic restrictions and/or alternating traffic patterns may occur during work hours. All emergency vehicles and local traffic will be allowed access during construction. Virginia American Water values the safety of its workers and advises drivers and pedestrians to take caution in the vicinity of work sites.
