West Virginia American Water Invests $300,000 in Kanawha City Infrastructure

Charleston, W.Va., (May 29, 2025) – West Virginia American Water is pleased to announce a $300,000 infrastructure upgrade project in Kanawha City. The project began the week of May 27th and includes replacing 700 feet of aging water main with 6-inch PVC on Toledo Avenue.
“This infrastructure upgrade project is part of our ongoing commitment to providing safe, clean and reliable water service to our customers,” said Scott Wyman, President of West Virginia American Water. “Ongoing investment in Kanawha City’s infrastructure is critical to helping improve service reliability, reduce service disruptions and maintain and improve water quality.”
Crews will work Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with traffic restrictions in place. This project, extending on Toledo Avenue from 55th Street to 56th Street, is scheduled to be completed by the end of July. The final street restoration will be completed in the summer of 2025.
This infrastructure upgrade project is part of West Virginia American Water’s plan to invest more than $112 million in infrastructure upgrades across the state in 2025, supporting the economic health of communities all across the company’s service area. Economic impact studies show that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, upwards of 15 jobs are generated throughout local economies.
Over the past decade, West Virginia American Water has invested over $736 million in infrastructure projects and capital upgrades to address aging infrastructure across the Mountain State, including more than 168 miles of new water main. During construction, customers may experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water, and/or lower than normal water pressure. Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences.
