WELCOME TO WEST VIRGINIA AMERICAN WATER.
WE’RE PROUD TO BE YOUR NEW WASTEWATER SERVICE PROVIDER.
On March 3, 2026, West Virginia American Water completed the acquisition of the City of Nitro Sanitary Board’s wastewater system. As a trusted provider of safe, clean, reliable water and wastewater service to communities across the state, we look forward to delivering the same high-quality service to you.
You’re in good hands.
Our focus is to provide you with safe, reliable wastewater service – and we have the people and technologies in place to get the job done right. As our valued customer, we wanted to share with you some information about the services we provide, as well as some changes that will be taking place over time.
About your rates:
- West Virginia Public Service Commission (PSC) approved moving Nitro Sanitary customers to West Virginia American Water’s wastewater rates over the course of a 3 year rate phase in. Customers will be at 71% of the WVAW rate for the first year. After the first year, rates will increase by 6% every six months for the next two years, until they match West Virginia American Water’s standard rates.
- All other fees in accordance with West Virginia American Water’s tariff approved by the Public Service Commission of West Virginia (PSC).
About billing:
We will continue to bill you monthly for wastewater service.
Here’s how the billing transition will work: West Virginia American Water will begin billing you for wastewater service in March. The first bill may be prorated and will cover wastewater service charges from March 3 through West Virginia American Water’s first meter read date. You will be billed monthly thereafter. If you are currently a water customer of ours, your wastewater charges will be included on your water bill.
Please note: Nitro cannot accept payments on our behalf. West Virginia American Water has several convenient payment options, including Auto Pay, paying online, by phone and in person.
If I have a balance due with Nitro, who should I pay?
Any balance due for Nitro should be paid and mailed to West Virginia American Water at the address provided on your bill. We also have several convenient payment options, including Auto Pay, paying online on MyWater (amwater.com/mywater), by phone and in person.
