Boil Water Order Will Be Issued Monday, Aug. 28 For Cairo District

(Cairo, Ill. August 25) – Due to planned maintenance work at the water treatment plant, Illinois American Water will be issuing a systemwide boil water order on Monday, August 28, for all water customers in the Cairo District.
Cairo District customers will receive a phone call to notify them of the boil order that starts Monday.
On average, systemwide boil water orders last a minimum of 72 hours. During the boil order, customers should bring their water to a rolling boil for five minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. Water is OK for bathing, washing and other common uses.
When the boil water order is lifted, customers will receive a phone call from Illinois American Water after tests confirm the water meets all regulated quality standards. A boil water order will be issued in accordance with Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations. Anytime water pressure drops below 20 pounds per square inch in any part of a community’s distribution system, a boil water order must be issued as a precaution to protect customers.
