Maryland American Water Reminds Customers to Check for Leaks During Fix a Leak Week, March 17-23

BEL AIR, Md.

BEL AIR, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Maryland American Water has partnered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to promote the sixth annual Fix a Leak Week, which runs next week, from March 17-23. The national campaign, part of EPA’s WaterSense program, is designed to raise awareness about small leaks and other water waste that may be occurring within homes.

Considering there are more than 110 million households in the U.S., minor leaks in the home translate to more than a trillion gallons of water lost annually nationwide. However, through initiatives like Fix a Leak Week, Maryland American Water is among the many companies joining forces to help consumers reduce that amount.

“The average household leak can add up to more than 10,000 gallons of water wasted every year; the same amount of water needed to wash 270 loads of laundry. Being proactive by checking for leaks twice annually (we recommend when Daylight Savings starts and ends), and fixing them in a timely manner, not only makes you a more environmentally conscious consumer but also saves money on your water bill,” said Maryland American Water President William R Walsh.

To assist customers with home leak repairs and prevention, Maryland American Water has produced a helpful guide for detecting common, and some not-so-common, indoor and outdoor water leaks. Leak detection kits are available by calling our Customer Service Center at 1-800-452-6863.
