Missouri American Water Proudly Recognizes American Water Charitable Foundation 2022 Water and Environment Grantee

Boys & Girls Club of Jefferson City receives grant for youth program

JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (August 24, 2022) – The American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water, the largest publicly traded U.S. water and wastewater utility company, recently announced the Boys & Girls Club of Jefferson City was awarded a 2022 Water and the Environment Grant to support communities served by Missouri American Water.

“The Boys & Girls Club of Jefferson City’s Youth Grow Program will receive $17,000 to support youth education on organic gardening techniques, nutrition, and healthy behaviors thanks to the American Water Charitable Foundation’s 2022 Water and the Environment Grant,” said Rich Svindland, president of Missouri American Water.  “We’re so pleased the Foundation is able to bolster the tremendous work the Boys & Girls Club is doing to promote health and wellbeing in Mid-Missouri.”

The Youth Grow Program empowers low-income elementary school children with the lifelong skills of resourcefulness, growing food and eating healthfully while enhancing the quality of life and the environment for youth and their families.

“Boys & Girls Club of Jefferson City is so fortunate to have received a grant from the American Water Charitable Foundation to expand our Youth Garden Program. The grant will allow us to offer a multi-week Garden Club after school, as well as a Summer Garden Club during the summer months when members are at the club for longer periods of time,” said Wade Middaugh, chief executive officer of the Boys & Girls Club of Jefferson City. “We are excited to offer this expanded program that is designed to help reduce risk factors for Club members and create the foundation for self-reliance that lasts a lifetime.”

The Youth Grow Program, which will begin at the Railton Elementary Site, is aimed at promoting healthy habits as well as a basic understanding of gardening and agriculture. The grant will help pay for a part-time Gardening Club Leader and supplies needed to start and sustain club gardens.

“The American Water Charitable Foundation is pleased to partner with organizations across Missouri American Water to provide equitable and accessible projects and programs focused on clean water, environmental education, access to water-based recreation and more,” said Carrie Williams, president of the American Water Charitable Foundation. “Funding for the Water and the Environment grant will create high-impact projects that engage communities in learning how every drop counts.”

The Water and the Environment grant is part of the American Water Charitable Foundation’s Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, focusing on three pillars of giving: Water, People and Communities.  Learn more about the American Water Charitable Foundation’s community impact here.
