New Jersey American Water Working to Repair Water Main Break in Westfield

CAMDEN, NJ, (DEC. 12, 2020) - A 12-inch water main broke today at 6:30 a.m. in Westfield at about 126 East Broad Street, BETWEEN Prospect St. and Elm St., affecting approximately 20 commercial and 30 residential customers. New Jersey American Water is working diligently to repair the main and restore service as quickly as possible.

East Broad Street will be closed between Prospect Street and Elm Street for the duration of the repair. As a safety precaution, the township and the fire department have instructed PSE&G to shut down electric to the area. Work is expected to be completed and water service restored within approximately 16 hours.

The cause of the main break is unknown at this time.

New Jersey American Water will provide bottled water to customers at the corner of Prospect Street and East Broad Street. Customers needing assistance in receiving bottled water may contact us by calling (908) 413-0186 and arrangements will be made to deliver water to their residence.

Customers can call American Water’s Customer Service Center at 1-800-272-1325 with questions. The center is available for emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
