New York American Water Replacing Aging Water Main in Baldwin

Baldwin, NY (March 2, 2020) – New York American Water is investing $100,000 to install new water main along Van Buren Place in Baldwin. The project, scheduled to begin March 2, will replace 380 feet of aging water main with 6-inch ductile iron main. The project will also replace 15 utility-owned service lines.

“Water main replacement is an important component of our infrastructure investment plan as it improves water quality and reliability of service for our customers,” said New York American Water Manager of Engineering John Kilpatrick.

This main replacement project will take place along Van Buren Place from Eastern Parkway to the street end in Baldwin. Work is expected to take approximately four weeks to complete. Final street restoration will be completed within the Town of Hempstead’s road construction project.

Work will take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Residents should note that sections of the street where construction is taking place may be closed to traffic during these working hours. New York American Water will coordinate with residents directly to minimize disruptions.

New York American Water is committed to the safety of nearby residents, as well as its employees, and advises that pedestrians and drivers take caution while in the vicinity of work sites. Any resident with a concern or question about the planned work is encouraged to call New York American Water customer service center at (877) 426-6999.
