New York American Water Replacing Aging Water Main in Cambridge

Cambridge, NY (May 11, 2020) – New York American Water is investing $1,700,000 to install new water main along Route 313 and Park Street in Cambridge, NY. The project, scheduled to begin Monday, May 18, weather permitting, will replace 4,500 feet of aging water main with new 12-inch ductile iron main. The project will also replace five fire hydrants and 16 utility-owned service lines and install two additional fire hydrants.

“This water main replacement project is important for improving water flow in the area for household use and fire suppression,” said New York American Water Director of Engineering John Kilpatrick. “When our crews are working, please follow social distancing recommendations for your safety and the safety of our employees.”

This main replacement project will take place along Route 313 from Spring Street to Park Street (Route 22) and Park Street (Route 22) from Cambridge Central School to the intersection with Route 313. Work is expected to take approximately nine weeks to complete. Final street restoration will be completed as part of the project after services are installed.

Work will take place between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Residents should note that sections of the street where construction is taking place may be closed to traffic during these working hours.
