New York American Water Replacing Aging Water Main in Oceanside

Oceanside, NY (February 19, 2020) – New York American Water is investing $700,000 to install new water main along Bennett Street, Lindbergh Avenue and Byrd Street in Oceanside. The project, scheduled to begin February 19, will replace 2,500 feet of aging water main with 8-inch ductile iron main. The project will also replace five fire hydrants and 75 utility-owned service lines.

“New York American Water continues to make important investments in our infrastructure,” said New York American Water Manager of Engineering John Kilpatrick. “Replacement of aging water mains is important to improve water quality and reliability of service for our customers.”

This main replacement project will take place along Bennett Street from Oceanside Road to Lindbergh Avenue; Lindbergh Avenue from Bennett Avenue to Oceanside Road; and Byrd Street from Oceanside Road to Lindbergh Avenue in Oceanside. Work is expected to take approximately six weeks to complete. Final street restoration will be completed within the Town of Hempstead’s road construction project.

Work will take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Residents should note that sections of the street where construction is taking place may be closed to traffic during these working hours. New York American Water will coordinate with residents directly to minimize disruptions.
