Pennsylvania American Water Announces $1.4 Million Indiana County Water System Upgrade

Indiana Borough replacement project scheduled to begin next week

INDIANA, Pa. (July 14, 2023) – Pennsylvania American Water is replacing and upsizing more than 5,300 feet of small, aging water main this year in its Indiana County service areas to improve service reliability and fire protection for residents. The cost of these system improvements is approximately $1.4 million.

Pennsylvania American Water contractors will begin installing a new water main along Chestnut Street, between North Ninth and Eighth Streets, on Wednesday, July 19, in Indiana Borough. Work hours will be Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., as part of the upgrade. Work outside these hours is only expected if required to maintain the project schedule.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in the project area. The company encourages motorists to find alternative routes and avoid the construction area during project hours.

In 2023, the company will replace additional water mains in Indiana Borough along Oakland Avenue and Washington Street. Customers will be notified before the start of construction. Final street restorations will be completed in the fall of 2023.

During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water, and lower-than-normal water pressure. Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences.

Pennsylvania American Water, a subsidiary of American Water (NYSE: AWK), is the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, providing high-quality and reliable water and wastewater services to approximately 2.3 million people.
