Norristown, Pa. (Nov. 17, 2021) – Pennsylvania American Water today announced the start of construction to replace 3,200 feet water main in Montgomery County to improve reliability for customers, reduce service disruptions, and increase water flows for firefighting. The cost of the system improvements, which replace water main dating back to the 1950s, is $1,050,000.

Today, Pennsylvania American Water contractors will begin replacing 1,700 feet of aging 4- and 6-inch cast iron water main pipe in Norristown with new 8-inch ductile iron main and installing new copper water supply services and meter chambers for customers. Work will take place on Nassau Place between Arch Street and Green Street, Green Street between Nassau Place and East Freedley Street and East Freedley Street between Green Street and Arch Street.

The company will also begin replacing 1,500 feet of cast iron water mains in Upper Merion Township today. Construction will include the installation of new 4-, 6- and 8-inch ductile iron pipe with new copper water supply services for our customers and will take place on Glenwood Avenue/David Street from Charles Street to the dead end and on Barnes Street between Crooked Lane and Glenwood Avenue.

For both projects, crews will work weekdays between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. and traffic restrictions will be in place during construction. The company expects to complete the water main installation projects and connect all customer service lines by the end of the year.
