Pennsylvania American Water Announces $2.2 Million Butler County Water System Upgrade

Butler Township replacement project scheduled to begin next week

BUTLER, Pa. (July 14, 2023) – Pennsylvania American Water is replacing and upsizing approximately 3 miles of small, aging water main this year in its Butler County service areas to improve service reliability and fire protection for residents. The cost of these system improvements is approximately $2.2 million.

Pennsylvania American Water contractors will begin installing a new water main along Kohler Avenue, between Erie and Main Streets, on Monday, July 17. Work hours will be Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., as part of the upgrade. Work outside these hours is only expected if required to maintain the project schedule.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in the project area. The company encourages motorists to find alternative routes and avoid the construction area during project hours.

In 2023, the company will replace additional water mains in the following areas:

Butler Township
- Pittsburgh Road
- Pepperland Boulevard
- North 6th Avenue
- North Duffy Road Meridian Road

The City of Butler
- North 6th Avenue

Jefferson Township
- Carol Drive

This year, the company has installed new water mains along Beck Road, North Breezewood Drive, and Colleen Street in Butler Township and along Clinton Avenue in the City of Butler.

Customers will be notified before the start of construction. Final street restorations will be completed in the fall of 2023.

During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water, and lower-than-normal water pressure. Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences.
