Pennsylvania American Water Announces $2.7 Million Water System Upgrade

Projects to begin in February in Brentwood and Baldwin boroughs

Pittsburgh, Pa. (Feb. 16, 2023) – Pennsylvania American Water announces the start of construction to install approximately one mile of new water main in Brentwood and Baldwin boroughs to improve service reliability and fire protection for residents. The cost of these system improvements is approximately $2.7 million.

Beginning this month water mains will be replaced with new ductile iron mains in Baldwin Borough along Elmwood Drive between Prospect Road and Senior Drive. In Brentwood, water mains will be replaced along:

  • Glendale Avenue to Elroy Way
  • Cloverlea Street to Threnhauser Avenue to the dead end
  • Grad Street between Cloverlea Street and Brownsville Road
  • Dalewood Street between Grad Street and Burdine Avenue
  • Threnhauser Avenue to Cloverlea Street to 3926

Crews will work weekdays between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and traffic restrictions will be in place during construction. The company expects to complete the water main installation, including connecting all customer service lines to the new mains, this spring, with final restoration and paving scheduled for fall.

This infrastructure upgrade project is not only an important investment in public health and safety. It also helps support the economic health of the communities we serve. Economic impact studies show that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, upwards of 15 jobs are generated throughout the economy. Pennsylvania American Water invested approximately $490 million in 2022 alone to improve our water and wastewater treatment and pipeline systems, supporting more than 7,000 jobs.

During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water, and/or lower-than-normal water pressure. Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences. For more information, contact Pennsylvania American Water’s customer service center at 1-800-565-7292.
