Pennsylvania American Water Announces $3.7 Million Castle Shannon Water System Upgrade
Pittsburgh, Pa. (Feb. 10, 2023) – Pennsylvania American Water announces the start of construction to install almost 2 miles of new water main in Castle Shannon to improve service reliability and fire protection for residents.
The cost of these system improvements is approximately $3.7 million. Starting in February, water mains will be replaced along:
- Glen Shannon Drive between Riehl Drive and Highview Road
- Kerry Hill Drive between Glen Shannon Drive and Waterford Drive
- Hoodridge Drive from Rockwood Avenue
- James Street between Willow Avenue and the dead end
- Willow Avenue between Rockwood Avenue and Baldwin Street
- Willow Avenue between Castle Shannon Boulevard and Canal Street
- Corbett Drive between Baldwin Street and Frank Street
Crews will work weekdays between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and traffic restrictions will be in place during construction. The company expects to complete the water main installation, including connecting all customer service lines to the new mains, this spring, with final restoration and paving scheduled for fall.
This infrastructure upgrade project is not only an important investment in public health and safety. It also helps support the economic health of the communities we serve. Economic impact studies show that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, upwards of 15 jobs are generated throughout the economy. Pennsylvania American Water invested approximately $490 million in 2022 alone to improve our water and wastewater treatment and pipeline systems, supporting more than 7,000 jobs.
During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water, and/or lower-than-normal water pressure.
