Pennsylvania American Water Announces $8.7 Million Allegheny County Water System Upgrade

New water mains are part of $40 million system investment

PITTSBURGH, Pa. The combined cost of these system improvements is approximately $8.7 million.

Pennsylvania American Water is investing approximately $41.5 million in Allegheny County during 2020 to replace aging and undersized water mains and wastewater treatment and pipeline systems. Earlier this week, Pennsylvania American Water contractors started upgrading water mains along South Pennsylvania Avenue in Bethel Park and Manhasset Road in Baldwin Borough.

Contractors will start upgrading more than 1.5 miles of water main along McMichael Road, Noblestown Road to Baldwin Road, in Collier Township on Monday, October 5, 2020. The $1.5 million project will provide improved reliability.

Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences. Once the pipe is installed, temporary restoration will take place in the excavated area.

Final paving restoration is expected to occur approximately three months after pipe installation, weather permitting. Any final paving not completed before the start of winter weather conditions will resume as weather permits the following spring. The entire project is expected to be complete in the spring of 2021, weather permitting.
