Tennessee American Water to Begin Water Main Replacement

Mains on James & Ashmore Avenues to Be Replaced

Chattanooga, Tenn. (May 5, 2021) – Tennessee American Water is scheduled to begin work this week to replace mains on James and Ashmore Avenues in Red Bank.  The project involves replacing pipe installed in the 1920s with 6-inch diameter mains. This project will improve water service reliability and increase water flows for household use and firefighting.

The company’s approximately $320,000 improvement will begin on Ashmore Avenue on Thursday, May 6 to replace the two-inch existing pipe.  Work on James Avenue begins when Ashmore Ave is complete and will replace the existing one-inch main.  The total project will be finished around mid-July, depending on weather and other construction factors that could affect the schedule. There may be periodic impact to traffic within the work area and the Tennessee American Water contractor, Eslinger Contracting Company, Inc., will have traffic control on site as needed.

For the safety of work crews, motorists and pedestrians in the area, Tennessee American Water encourages drivers and pedestrians to be extra cautious when in the vicinity of work zones.

Tennessee American Water invests approximately $25 million annually in capital improvement projects to maintain quality, reliable water service for customers.
