Virginia American Water Begins Water Main Replacement in Hopewell to Improve Reliability, Fire Protection

Dateline City:
HOPEWELL, Va.

Virginia American Water today announced the start of the latest in a series of water main upgrades in Hopewell to enhance water quality, improve service reliability and increase flows for fire protection. The cost of the water system improvements is approximately $84,000.

Beginning this week, Virginia American Water is replacing approximately 600 feet of undersized one-inch and two-inch galvanized water main along West Cawson Street between North 11th Avenue and North 12th Avenue and to the end of the West Cawson Street cul de sac. New six-inch and eight-inch ductile iron cement-lined pipe will replace pipe that dates back to 1950 and has reached the end of its useful life.

This project follows four other pipeline upgrades that Virginia American Water previously announced this year in Hopewell, along South 12th, Mohawk, Byrd and Dublin streets.

Crews will work weekdays between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The estimated duration of the project is four weeks. During the project, some residents of West Cawson Street might experience limited inconvenience as the construction crews work near their driveway entrances. Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of any temporary inconveniences.
