prescaresize233x352Rich Svindland serves as the President of California American Water and Hawaii American Water, both investor-owned regulated utilities, where he and his team are responsible for the operation of water and wastewater systems across California and Hawaii serving approximately 690,000 people.

Svindland is a Professional Engineer with over 25 years of experience in the water and wastewater fields, working both as an engineering consultant and an owner. Prior to his current role, he served as vice president of Operations for California American Water and vice president of Engineering for California American Water and Hawaii American Water.

Svindland was heavily involved with two large projects on the Monterey Peninsula, including the recently completed Carmel River Reroute and San Clemente Dam Removal project, an $83M project that ultimately removed an unsafe dam and restored fish passage. He was also involved in the Monterey Peninsula Water Supply Project, a $322M project to replace over 70 percent of the service area’s water supply with a 6.4 MGD desalination plant, over 20+ miles of main, increased Aquifer Storage and Recovery and a 3,500 AFY groundwater replenishment component using recycled water purchased from the Monterey Regional Water Pollution Control Agency and the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District.

Svindland received his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech and a master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky.He is a member of American Society of Engineers (ASCE), American Water Works Association (AWWA), and Water Environment Federation (WEF).He is an avid golfer, skier, cyclist and mountain biker.He resides in Rocklin, Calif. with his wife and two sons.
